May 6, 2011, 12:42 PM | Article By: Yusuf Ceesay

The defilement case involving one Jonathan Ehama, which was before the Kanifing Magistrates' Court, has now been transferred to the Bundung Magistrates' Court.

This development followed an application made by defence counsel, E.M Sissoho, that the Kanifing Magistrates' Court "lacks Jurisdiction" over the case.

He further submitted that the case should be transferred to the Bundung Magistrates' Court for hearing.

His application was granted and the case was subsequently transferred to the Bundung Magistrates' Court.

Mr Ehama was charged with defilement of an underage girl contrary to section 127 of the criminal code cap 10 vol.3 laws of The Gambia 1990 as amended by the Children’s Act 2005, a charge he has denied.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused, Jonathan Ehama, on 16 April 2010, at Sanchaba, in the Kanifing Municipality, had carnal knowledge of an underage girl.
