Defence witness testifies in assault case

Kadijatou Tunkara, a resident of Fajikunda, recently testified in the criminal trial of assault involving one Marry Eaglerton at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Edward Singhateh.

Testifying as defence witness three, Kadijatou Tunkara told the court that on 24 September 2010, she came from the market and met one Sona Coker on the complainant’s veranda.

She told the court that by then it was raining and the accused’s daughter heard a noise outside and went out to find out what was happening.

According to her, the accused told her daughter to go and check the cashpower, adding that it was then the complainant started insulting, by addressing them as prostitutes.

She said there were exchange of words and as a result they fought.

She said that when the complainant’s mother was informed about the matter she came with her two children and together with Sona Coker they jointly fought the accused persons.

Still testifying, she told the court that during the fight, the complainant hit the accused with a burglar proof and as a result, the accused sustained injury.

She said the matter was later reported to the Wellingara Police Station.

The case was at that juncture adjourned till 24 June 2011.
