Defence opens in Dutch national’s case

One Andrew Van Roy, a Dutch national who was charged with multiple offences before the Special Criminal Court in Banjul, recently opened his defence before the vacation judge, Justice Emmanuel Nkea.

In his defence, Van Roy told the court that he was living in Tintinto village, but currently he is remanded at Mile 2 Central Prison.

He added that he is a poultry farmer and lives together with his watchman, one Mr Badjie, within the farm.

The Dutch national further explained that Mr Badjie stole from his farm and, as a result, he dragged him to court, adding that the court made an order for Badjie to vacate the farm.

He said this was well before this case in question.

The case continues on 29 August 2011.

Andre Van Roy, who denied the charges, was charged with rape, defilement, two counts of seduction and two counts of indecent act.

According to the particulars of offence on count one, in 2008 at Tintinto village in the West Coast Region, the accused person had canal knowledge of an underaged girl.

Count two stated that between 2010 and 2011, at Tintinto village in the West Coast Region, the accused had canal knowledge of an underaged girl.

Count three stated that between 2008 and 2011, at Tintinto village in the West Coast Region, the accused caused the seduction of a fifteen-year-old girl.

The charge sheet on count four stated that the accused, Andre Van Roy, between 2010 and 2011 at Tintinto village in the West Coast Region, caused the seduction of a fifteen-year-old girl.

Count five and six stated that, between 2009 and 2011 at Tintinto village in the West Coast Region, the accused exposed his genital organ to an under aged girl.
