Defence
counsel LS Camara yesterday asked the Banjul magistrates’ court to acquit and
discharge the two journalists, adding that the prosecution had woefully failed
to make a prima facie case against the accused persons.
Sainey MK Marenah, a freelance Journalist, and Musa S. Sheriff, the editor-in-chief of The Voice newspaper, were arraigned at the court before magistrate Trawally, charge with conspiracy and publication of false news.
Lawyer Camara, in the no-case-to-answer submission, told the court that the prosecution witnesses were discredited during cross-examination and the essential elements were not proven.
The case was adjourned to 9 September 2014, for reply by the prosecution.
