The Mayor of Darmmen City in Norway Mr. Ture Berg arrived in the country on Sunday for a weeklong visit as a special guest of the Banjul City Council (BCC). Mayor Ture Berg, who served as councillor for 4 years before becoming a Mayor, had also served in his country's city council for 16 years.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the BCC conference hall on Monday, the Mayor of Banjul City Council Samba Faal welcomed his counterpart to the City of Banjul from Darmmen City in Norway. Mayor Faal said this is the first time Mayor Ture Darmmen is visiting The Gambia and Africa, in particular. He told the visiting Mayor that the entire Gambian population and his council, in particular, appreciates his visit to the BCC.
He told his Darmmen City counterparts that he has 9 elected councillors and 4 other nominated councillors, and that the whole of his staff work to meet the interest of the Banjulians. Mayor Faal then conferred an honorary citizenship of Banjul on the Mayor of Darmmen City Ture Berg, as a show of appreciation.
For his part, the visiting Darmmen City Mayor Ture Berg thanked Mayor Faal and his staff for the welcome accorded to him. He said Darmmen City is 45kms from Oslo with a population of 9,000 people and 62 Municipalities. He said that he accepts the honorary citizenship of Banjul with gratitude.
Mr. Momodou Senghore, the man who facilitated the coming of Mayor Berg to The Gambia, expressed his profound gratitude to Mayor Faal and his staff for the warm welcome accorded to Mayor Berg.
