D2.5 million gold theft case reaches court

A 2.5 million dalasis reported gold theft case involving one Abdou Aziz Camara was yesterday heard at the Kanifing Magistrates` Court before Principal Magistrate Tabally.

The accused, Abdou Aziz Camara, was arraigned and charged with housebreaking and stealing, which he had denied.

He was granted court bail of D3 million with two Gambian sureties each of whom must deposit title deeds with the court.

The accused person was also ordered to surrender all his travel documents, and he should not interfere with the investigation.

According to the charge sheet on count one, the accused person, Abdou Aziz Camara and three others, on 17 September 2012 at Bakau in the Kanifing Municipality, jointly broke into the house of one Amie Jack, with intent to commit a felony.

The charge sheet on count two read that he and three others jointly broke and stole 2.5 kilos of gold valued at D2.5 million, two laptops valued at 800 pounds, two Samsung galaxy valued at D40, 000, two digital camera valued at 2000 Euros, a data card valued at D3, 800, a diamond ring, two gold finger rings and two gold-plated wrist watches.

It was further alleged that he went into hiding, from that day until he was arrested by the police.

The case continues on 31 October 2012.
