The governor of the Central River Regon, (CRR), Alhagie Ganyie Touray, yesterday told this paper that as far as he is concerned, his region is still the chosen venue for the 2012 National Youth Conference and Festival, Nayconf.
“The place within the region may change, but the region is still the chosen venue for the youth gathering,” he said.
The CRR governor also said that there were some concerns raised regarding Janjangbureh as the venue, but would not give further details about those concerns, since he was never called to any meeting regarding the matter.
“We are going to meet on Saturday to discuss the way forward and, likely, if Janjangbureh is not going to be the venue, we need to look for another place within the region,” he said.
However, if the place will change, the date would also likely be changed as they would need to do some more work, he added.
Governor Touray further told this reporter that they are fully prepared to host a successful Nayconf.
The Nayconf was scheduled to be held in CRR, from 14 to 22 December 2012.
Meanwhile, when contacted, Fabakary Kalleh, chairperson of the National Youth Council who also doubles as the chairman of the National Organizing Committee (NOC) for Nayconf 2012, said CRR still remains the host region for the biennial youth gathering.
He further revealed that Bansang is now the probable venue for the event, and that the entire NOC is leaving for the region this weekend to work on that.
Meanwhile, this paper has gathered from credible sources that the issue of young people, especially girls, fainting in Janjangbureh was the reason for the change of venue.
