The daylong gathering was held at Actionaid premises along MDI Road, Kanifing.

The General Comment with regards to child rights includes the inclusion of children in the government’s budget allocation to the public sector.

Kaddijatou Jallow, child protection officer at CPA, said in other to realise the rights of children, one needs to allocate a special budget for them, adding that children needs to be provided with social amenities like hospitals, schools and other protection services.

“Children should be included in budgets not because they are entitled to but it is also their rights,” she said.

According to her, for children to realise their rights, they should be provided with an enabling environment and be educated.

Mrs Jallow said children with special need should be included in allocating budgets; they should not be discriminated based on their religion, nationality or gender.
