The criminal trial of theft and receiving stolen properties involving Omar Gassama, Edrisa Camara, Karamba Ceesay and Mbye Kebbeh proceeded recently at the Kanifing Magistrates' Court before Magistrate Drammeh.
According to the charge sheet, on 17 March 2011, at Sankung Sillah & Sons Company, the first, second and third accused persons jointly stole machine spare parts (metals) and metro iron pipes valued at D174,900, being the property of the said company.
The charge sheet on count two stated that the fourth accused received or retained machine spare parts (metals) and iron pipes from Omar Gassama, Karamba Ceesay and Edrisa Camara, the first, second and third accused persons respectively, knowing or having reason to believe same to have been stolen or unlawfully obtained.
Testifying for the prosecution, Mamud Sillah, Operational Director of Sankung Sillah & Sons Company, told the court that he recognised the first and third accused as staff of the company.
He said that on 17 March 2011, he reported for work at around 8 a.m. and was informed by his accountants and managers that some spare parts were missing.
He added that during the investigation, they went to the fourth accused that used to sell scrapped (metals) and saw some of their missing items, adding that he went to the fourth accused's shop and confirmed the missing items.
Mr Sillah explained that he called the Kanifing Police Station, adding that the police came and asked the fourth accused to bring out all the items in his shop whilst other missing items were found.
He said the fourth accused told them that that was his first time of buying scraps from the other two accused persons.
He added that the accused persons were together with the items taken to the Kanifing Estate Police Station where a statement was obtained from him.
The case was at that juncture of testifying adjourned till 21 April 2011.
