Community support is vital

Jan 27, 2011, 10:07 AM

The initiative taken by the Kambengo Foundation of the Netherlands to support Gambian communities in different areas of need is indeed a worthy cause.

The recent support the organisation gave to the health facilities to strengthen the health delivery system in the country and the renovation of some of our health facilities is a good move.

The organisation is also engaged in providing safe drinking water to both the people and animals in the rural communities.

We have also learnt that the foundation has not limited its support to the areas of health, education and some agricultural related activities; it is also assisting women groups and individuals, with small loans.

We strongly believe that any organisation that is directing efforts at alleviating maternal mortality, is contributing towards meeting the MDG4 and 5.

It is now high time for the beneficiaries to make the best use of the support they have been receiving over the years.

Most of the time, organisations come up with good intentions and plans to support but sometimes fail to consult the communities they intend to support, to know their priority needs.

We are therefore calling on other organisations to emulate Kambengo Foundation and many others that are supporting Gambian people.

Helping the people means contributing towards national development.  Bravo Kambengo Foundation of the Netherlands!
