The Honorary General Consul of The Gambia in the German federal state of North Rhine Westphalia Dr. Rolf Becker recently hosted an exclusive reception in observance of The Gambia’s Golden Jubilee.

The event that took place in the city of Cologne brought together captains of the German tourism and marketing industries, prominent members of The Gambia Diaspora in Germany and the Executives of The Gambian German Cultural Association eV (GGC).

In welcoming the guest, Dr. Becker reflected on the contributions he and his spouse Mrs Ursula Becker have been rending to the Gambia in the area of education. To date over 500 (five hundred) students have benefited from their project and they would like to expand it to include more beneficiaries.

The Gambia’s Ambassador in Brussels who is also accredited to the Federal Republic of Germany, Teneng Mba Jaiteh, was the special guest of honour. She gave a convincing account of the Gambia’s development over the past 50 years and explained the investment opportunities in the country.

The President of the Gambia German Cultural Association (GGCA), Abdoulie Falai Jallow thanked the guests for coming out in numbers to celebrate The Gambia’s golden jubilee.

For his part, the Assistant Secretary General of the Association, Prince Bubacarr Aminata Sankanu, observed that “it is not easy to bring together busy people running businesses with at least one thousand employees together on a working day.

The fact that all invited guests came in person and on time shows the respect accorded us here.”

The event was enriched with traditional Gambian music as the guests interacted and exchanged ideas on areas of mutually beneficial cooperation between Germany and The Gambia.

Some have already expressed readiness to visit the Gambia during the course of 2015 to assess the opportunities on the ground.
