CID Officer Testifies in Court

A CID officer posted to Serrekunda Police Station (name withheld) on 11th f February 2009 testified at the Bundung Magistrates' Court as prosecution witness one (PW1) before Magistrate Kumba Sillah-Camara, in the criminal trial involving Sulayman Senghore, who was alleged of escaping from a lawful custody at Bundung Police Station.

In his testimony, PW1 stated that on 6th January 2009, he closed from work and boarded a vehicle going home. He said he was sitting beside the driver and when he reached at Bundung six- junction he saw the accused person whom he recognized as the prisoners who were sometime brought to their office by the drugs squad. PW1 revealed that before he arrested the accused he received a telephone called from his boss informing him that Sulayman Senghore was among the escaped prisoners and he is wanted.

PW1 further revealed that he saw the accused 100 meters away and he urged the driver to stop and he disembarked from the vehicle and called the accused, and effected the arrest on him and took him to Serrekunda Police Station, where he was cautioned and obtained a cautionary statement from him in presence of Foday Keita, the night duty officer.

It could be recalled that the accused Sulayman Senghore was charged for the offence of escaping from lawful custody in December 2008.

The case was adjourned to 16th February 2009.
