The butchers have agreed to continue selling meat at the fixed price, after a meeting convened on Sunday between members of the butchers association and the Gambia Livestock Marketing Agency, GLMA .
It would be recalled that consumers in the Greater Banjul area recently witnessed an increase in the kilo price of meat, from D150 to D160 for meat and bone, and steak increased from D175 to D185 per kilo.
During the meeting, GLMA director-general Dr Demba Jallow told the butchers and the cattle dealers to stick to the initial price agreed until a general meeting was held in the near future, and to wait for the outcome of that meeting.
As at now, he emphasized, they should stick to the old price, which both the dealers and the butchers unanimously agreed to, in an understanding reached with the GLMA.
