Businessman testifies in obtaining money by false pretence trial

A businessman called Jahara Camara recently testified in the trial involving one Alassana Kanteh, accused of obtaining money by false pretence, before Magistrate P. Sarre of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

Camara told the court that he was present when all the transaction for a plot of land was taking place between the accused and the complainant, but was not present when the complainant was giving money to Kanteh.

The witness told the court that the accused prepared the land document and gave it to the complainant, but the complainant complained that the document was not bearing the accused person’s name.

Camara added that the accused never told the complainant that he got the land from somebody.

The case was adjourned to 4 May 2015, for judgment.

The particulars of offence stated that the accused, Alassana Kanteh, on 1 April 2014 at Sinchu Baliya village Kombo North West Coast Region, obtained the sum of D120,000 from one Saikou Darry with the pretext that he had a plot of land located at Old Yundum village for sale, which information he knew or believed to be false, and thereby committed an offence.
