Philanthropists from Belgium headed by one Patrick De Vos recently donated medical items to the New Yundum Health Centre.
In his opening remarks at the presentation, the Alkalo of the village, Alhagie Ousman Bojang, applauded the donors for their continued support to the community.
He assured them they will make good use of the medical items donated while informing them that the centre has ever since been upgraded from a health post to a health centre and the demand for its services is increasing on a daily basis.
Patrick De Vos, head of the Belgium philanthropists, said his first impression is the turnout of the people from the community and the stakeholders to the presentation.
They are aware of the role the hospital is playing in Yundum and the surrounding villages, he noted.
“We knew the government is doing a lot in health and we therefore want to support Government’s endeavour,” he said. “We will try to increase our help to the hospital and we are also interested in helping the New Yundum Lower Basic School.”
He also thanked Adama Jobarteh, the OIC in the health centre, and promised her they will work closely together in the future.
For her part, the OIC of Yundum Health Centre, Adama Jobarteh, welcomed the gesture of the philanthropists to her health post.
She said the gesture would complement the efforts of the Government in trying to provide available, accessible and affordable quality health care services to all citizens.
The director of western health region, Alhagie Saine, also delivered remarks at the presentation ceremony while VDC chairman Fansu Bojang gave the vote of thanks.
