Newly-promoted side Banjul United on Wednesday defeated Armed Forces in the week-seven fixtures to bounce back to their winning form in the 2013-2014 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) division league played at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium.
Banjul United, who lost to Bakau United 3-1 in the week-six fixtures at the weekend, knew that a defeat against Armed Forces will dash their hopes and chances of staying in the top flight league next season.
In another encounter, Armed Forces drew 3-3 with Wallidan in their week-six futures at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium at the weekend.
Both sides came all out for a win in order to keep their dreams of securing good position on the league table in the first round and it was the debutant who were able to capitalize on their limited goal-scoring opportunities and notched in one goal to carry the vital three points.
Armed Forces fought hard for an equalizer, creating goal-scoring opportunities but to no avail; thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Banjul United.
Gambia Ports Authority continued a poor run of form in the league after losing to Bakau United on the same score-line in the other week-seven fixtures played at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium on the same day.
Bakau are now 4th position on the league table with 11 points in seven games. Banjul United are 5th position with 10 points in seven games.
Armed Forces are struggling 3rd position from bottom with 5 points in seven games, while Gambia Ports Authority are languishing 2nd position from bottom with only 3 points in seven games.
