Banjul Zonal team have defeated Gunjur Zonal team 2-0 in group A game of the ongoing Gambia Football Association Super Nawetan zonal football championship at the Banjul KG5 Mini-stadium on Wednesday at 5pm.
The watershed clash, which was characterised by brilliant exhibition of skills and panache, attracted large crowd.
Both teams had goal-scoring chances but failed any goal in the first half of the game.
As action resumed in the second half, Banjul Zonal team made several substitutions that really paid dividends by putting heavy pressure on Gunjur defence line.
Banjul Zonal team opened the scoring through substitute Alagie Sarr in the 73rd minute of the game after beating Gunjur Zonal team offside to smash the ball at the back of Gunjur’s team’s net to give his side the lead.
Substitute Alagie Sarr netted Banjul Zonal team’s second goal in the 77th minute of the game from the penalty spot after Gunjur Zonal team centre-back Kalifa Bojang handled the ball inside the eighteen-yard box to complete his brace.
Gunjur Zonal team fought back for an equalizer but could not break through Banjul Zonal team defence line and thus the game ended 2-0 in favour of Banjul Zonal team.
Elsewhere, defending champions Serrekunda East beat Serrekunda Central 2-0 in group A encounter played at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium on the same day.
