Senior Magistrate Mbackeh of the Bundung Magistrates' Court recently convicted and sentenced one Ebrima Bajinka, a resident of Ebo Town, to a fine of D300 in default to serve two weeks in prison for assault.

The convict was also ordered to compensate the complainant in the sum of D750 in default to serve one month in prison.

In delivering judgment, Magistrate Mbackeh stated that the convict was arraigned for assaulting one Mariama Jassey by slapping her on the chest, a charge he vehemently denied.

He said the prosecution in support of their case had called in three witnesses, while the defence also called three witnesses in support of his defence.

Magistrate Mbackeh further stated that after evaluating the evidence of both the prosecution and the defence, the court found that the prosecution had proven their case against the convicted person.

"The court found the convicted person guilty of the charge and sentences him accordingly," Magistrate Mbackeh declared.
