The Gambia Armed Forces relay team yesterday celebrated the biggest athletics championship title after they emerged the winners of the just concluded 440 nationwide athletics championship, as they covered the distance of 440 km within the space of 30 hrs 59 seconds, to go home with a huge amount of D25, 000, starting from Koina to Banjul.
Armed Forces relay team, who dominated the greater part of the race, was followed by KMC relay team, who became the runner-up after securing the second spot within 32 hrs. They collected a cash prize of D15, 000, while the third place Fajara boxing GYM occupied the third spot with the timing of 35 hrs, as they went home with an amount of D10, 000.
The run for The Gambia, the biggest athletics in the country ended yesterday in Banjul.
The event which covers a total of 440km, according to the Development Officer of the National Sports Council Abdul Aziz Titao Mendy came to a successful conclusion at the July 22nd Square, where the most outstanding athlete, the runner-up and the 3rd best athletes were each presented medals, trophies, as well as the cash prizes, respectively.
The presentation was attended by a cross section of top officials.
According to Titao, a total of 36 participants representing three relay teams took part in the relay plus three officials one in each side.
