According to security sources,Hon Dawda Manneh, the National Assembly Member for Nianija Constituency in Central River Region, was last Saturday night arrested. He was arrested together with one Demba Baldeh, an ex-soldier now working as a Security Guard at the Central Bank for allegedly trying to smuggle a large quantity of cannabis sativa, locally called jamba.
Sources said his vehicle was intercepted by personnel of National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDEA) in Bansang with 46kg of cannabis, although this quantity could not be officially substantiated.
They were held at the Bansang Police Station before being transferred to Banjul on Sunday, our sources added.
