Alleged theft case proceeds

The alleged theft case involving one Mariama Kujabi proceeded on Thursday before Magistrate Jallow of the Kanifing Magistrates' Court.

Testifying earlier for the prosecution, CpL Oumie Saine told the court that she is a police officer attached to the Kairaba Police Station and she knows the complainant, Alasana Conneh.

"The complainant lodged a complaint that his $1,000 was stolen in his house and he suspected their maids," said the officer.

CpL Saine adduced that the statement of his complaint was recorded and they proceeded to his house, adding that on their way, the complainant informed athem that there were four maids in his compound.

"On our arrival, the complainant called all the maids in the compound for questioning," she narrated, noting that during the interrogation, the accused confessed taking the said money.

She testified that the accused led them to her house and $200 was recovered from her.

"Further search was conducted but nothing was found," revealed the witness, adding that the accused was escorted to the Kairaba Police Station where her statement was recorded.

Ramatoulie Sallah, also a police officer, gave a corroborating testimony to that of CpL Saine.

At that juncture prosecutor 2118 Gomez announced the closure of the prosecution case.

Hearing was adjourned till 16 June 2011 for Defence.
