The alleged theft case involving one Saikou Sillah continued on Wednesday at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court.

Ebrima Bojang testified as the third prosecution witness (PW3) and told the court that he is a taxi driver.

He said he recognised the accused person and on 27 October 2011, he was driving his taxi from Corporative heading to Latrikunda, and on reaching a junction he found a vehicle parked on the roadside with some Chinese nationals.

He said he stopped at the junction and the accused came and asked him about where he was going. He said he told the accused he was going to Latrikunda.

PW3 further told the court that the accused boarded his vehicle, adding that there were some children standing on the roadside asking for a lift who told him the accused was a thief.

He revealed that one of the boys among the children who were standing on the roadside came and grabbed the bag and gave it to the Chinese nationals.

He further adduced that the accused was subsequently apprehended by a policeman and taken to the Kairaba Police Station.

He said at the police station, the bag was opened in his presence and D75,523.00 was counted from it, adding that the Chinese nationals confirmed they owned the money. He therefore made a statement on the issue, he told the court.

Hearing continues on 19 December 2011.
