Alleged defilement victim testifies in court

An alleged victim of defilement yesterday testified at the high court in Banjul before Justice Awa Bah, in the ongoing defilement trial involving one Mbai Sawo, said to be a teacher at Ndemban Lower Basic School.

In her testimony, the witness told the court that she recognized the accused person, Mbai Sawo, and further said that on 16th July 2009, the accused invited her to visit him at his compound, which she did.

“The accused invited me to his house, and while in the house he asked me whether I love him, and I told him I love you,” she further told the court.

“The accused asked me to have sex with him. I told him that I am waiting for my grade 9 results. He convinced me, and I later accepted to have sex with him,” the victim further explained.

“He forcefully push me onto the bed, undressed me and we started having sex, after which I did not see my menstruation period,” she added.

“I did not take any step because I was afraid of my parents, but after sometime I realized that I was pregnant. I delivered, and the child is alive,” she told the court.

Under cross-examination by defence counsel, O.D. Mbai, the witness told the court that the accused was not the first person she had sex with before, adding that she had sex with somebody in 2008 when she was 15 years of age.

She denied being in love with the accused person.

The case was at that juncture adjourned till 28th April 2011.
