Alleged burglar arraigned

A man was recently arraigned before Principal Magistrate Abeke of the Brikama Magistrates' Court, charged with housebreaking and stealing.

Momodou Alieu Njie pleaded not guilty of the charge and was subsequently granted bail of D20,000 with two Gambian sureties.

The charge sheet on count one stated that on 8 February 2011, at New Yundum Village, in Kombo North district, West Coast Region, the accused, Momodou Alieu Njie, broke into the house of one Fatou Dibba with intent to steal.

Count two read that on the same date and place, he stole one pair of shoe valued at D300, one necklace valued at D250, cash of D200, two DVD speakers valued at D270, and a wristwatch valued at D675, all being the properties of Sarjo Saho and Fatou Dibba.

Hearing continues on 1 March 2011.
