The Minister of Agriculture MOA Hon. Amie
Fabureh on Friday concluded a three days tour across the country for the handing
over of farming implements to various selected beneficiaries’ village
communities in the regions under the directives from the president Adama Barrow
goodwill gesture. The farming equipment was secured through KR2 Japanse project
grant.
The farming implements was giving to the farmers by the Gambian
leader, following a request made by the farmers during his presidential nationwide
tour.
The minister was accompanied by his deputy secretary
Musa Huma , Central project coordination Unit CPCU coordinator Abdoulie Touray ,Director General
Department of Agriculture Dr. Saikou Sanyang and top agricultural senior staff .
The delegation was received by the Regional
Governor CRR Hon. Abba Sanyang upon their arrival in CRR, and the regional
Agriculture Director Famara Trawally and his junior staff.
During the handing over , the minister through the regional Governor handed
over various farming implements to fifty community (15 ) including one
private investor farm called Marou Farm LTD
based in pacharr Rice field, equipment include power tillers, multipurpose thresher , Tarpaulin ,coarse
grain machine, pumping machine, Blaster freezer for poultry house and Rice milling machined, among
others was purchase through the Japanse project call kenned round 2 (KR2 project).
The delegation was received by the Governor
of Central River Region Hon. Abba Sanyang and taking from one village to
another by the regional director of Agriculture Mr. famara Trawally to witness
the handing over of the farming equipment.
Speaking at various handing over ceremony the
minister of Agriculture Hon. Amie Fabureh said she was out to hand over the
mentioned farming equipment to selected
beneficiaries communities on behalf of President Barrow goodwill gesture.
She
said this farming equipment was as a request made by the farmers to President
Barrow during his last presidential tour. However, Based on this , the
president in consultation with the minister of Agriculture responded positively
to this request less than one month, which led the minister to go round to the
regions of this country and made a handing over of this equipment to various selected
beneficiaries communities across the
country.
During the handing over ceremony from various
communities the female Agriculture Minister was applauded by farmers for her firmed
commitment, ambitious and the concern she pose to the farmers. We are grateful
to her, since after her appointment there are many developmental changes at the
farmer’s level. One old farmer stated in CRR South.
According to one Old man, farmer’s plight has
been always the priority of the female minister of agriculture Hon. Amie
Fabureh. He therefore urged other cabinet ministers to emulate her in their
various preview for the development of this country. The Old man said seen the
minister at the principal villages is a big plus and motivation for them.
For
his part the Regional Governor CRR Hon. Abba Sanyang commended the president Barrow
for addressing the plight of the farmers. He said this equipment will go a long
way in supporting the farmers to boost their agricultural production and
productivity. He challenged the farmers to make the best use of the equipment
as they will greatly help them from hard labour.
Also speaking the Director General Department
of Agriculture, spoke extensively about the issues of sustainability, he said
this equipment is here to support the farmers in reducing their hard labour
burden. He said this equipment will also help them to earn more income provided
that it is well manage and utilize in the right way. He advised them to
establish a management committee that will manage the maintenance of the
equipment. He equally commended the President of the Gambia for supporting the
farmers at the right times with equipment.
Abdoulie Touray the coordinator of central
project coordination Unit (CPCU) lamented similar sentiment and call for more
commitment toward agricultural farming equipment. He said Government has do everything
possible to ensure that this equipment are at their doorstep. Therefore, it is
the responsibility of the farmers to ensure the durability of the farming equipment.
Chief of Lower fulladu Momodou Baldeh spoke
the need for attitudinal changes toward our agricultural farming implements. He
said this equipment are of great significant to our work , saying that there
will be no functional agriculture without equipment. He also recount some of
the previous farming implements that were brought for farmers but today most of
this farming implements are not were to be found.
