In the ongoing 76th AIPS Congress which opened on Monday in the Russian Black Sea and 2014 Winter Olympic City of Sochi, the continental section AIPS Africa elected its new office bearers following the decision passed in the last extraordinary congress held in Dakar, Senegal, on February 20-22, 2013.
The meeting was supervised by AIPS Treasurer and Bureau member Jorge Ribeiro assisted by Evelyn Watta and Bouzrara Jalal of Morocco.
The Dakar meeting had tasked the interim committee to open nominations and organize the elections in Sochi.
Accordingly with the involvement of 24 countries including The Gambia, the assembly backed proposals for a consensus to pick 13 members for the AIPS Africa Executive Committee following the withdrawal of three candidates, Kabulo Muana Kabulo (DRC), Mamadou Koume (Senegal) and Morad Moutaouakkil (Morocco), in favour of Mitchell Obi (Nigeria).
The Assembly went through the elected posts endorsing members proposed by Mitchell Obi and co-opted by members present.
At the end of the process the Assembly approved by acclamation the following list:
President, Mitchell Obi (Nigeria); 1st Vice President, Morad Moutaouakkil (Morocco); Vice Presidents, Kabulo Muana Kabulo (DRC) and Amadou Dioulde Diallo (Guinea); Secretary General, Emmanuel Gustave Samnick (Cameroon); Assistant Sec. General, Antonio Goncalves Ferreira (Angola); Treasurer, FELEX Sohounde Peperipe (Benin); Executive Committee Members (6) Ibrahim Abdallah Mustafa Hema (Libya), Ntoto Lacombe(Congo), Slimane Mohammed (Niger), Yonas Teshhome(Ethiopia), Mufti Mohammed Saeed (Sudan), and Rougie Niane (Senegal).
Meanwhile, the main AIPS general election is scheduled for Wednesday at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Sochi.
