A noble cause

Feb 5, 2010, 7:41 PM

The move taken by theAid for Smiles International to reach out to the socially-disadvantaged, the poor, marginalised and vulnerable groups of people from around the world is a noble cause.

In The Gambia, the organisation is in the process of building a first class nursery and primary school in Farafenni, North Bank Region, but constrained by financial problem.

This is a worthy cause that all good-loving people should be delighted to be associated with.

We understand very well that the group is not asking for millions, neither do they request for half a million but just hundred thousand. Though this amount may be big for many, it is a chicken feed for those well off.

We, therefore, call on such individuals and institutions to support young people with great initiatives like this.

The best way one can help children is to give them early education. By so doing, you prepare and nurture them to become responsible citizens. Just like the Aid for Smile Executive Director, Mohammed Lamarana Barry has put it, the importance for early education is a just basis for solid educational foundation.

The project, he said, would cost about two hundred thousand Dalasi and have so far raised a little over hundred thousand Dalasi.

It is good to note that a child you sponsor today may take care of you tomorrow.

We, therefore, call on the public to support this project as it aims to empower future leaders.
