A big support for football

Jan 12, 2011, 9:16 AM

The recent signing of a D4 million contract for Gambian football between Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) and the Gambia for Gold Fundraising Committee is indeed a worthy investment in Gambian football, because this assistance is meant for the Gambia’s participation in international tournaments.

This has clearly demonstrated that the private sector, as an engine of development and economic growth, has a role to play in the development of sport in any nation.

This is because the government alone cannot do it, without the support of others.

The deal signed between the two parties has placed Gambia for Gold in a position to be receiving D1 million every year from the bank over a period of four years, as agreed.

Coaches and players should always work collectively, as a team, in order for them to achieve the desired results the country expects from them.

If people are always disappointed, over the performance of the teams in competitions, it will be difficult, for both the Ministry of Youth and Sports and The Gambia for Gold, to mobilize resources from both the public and private sectors, as well as from individuals.

So let’s make hay while the sun shines.
