Public
Relations Officer of the Gambia Immigration Department, Assistant
Superintendent Mamanding S. Dibba, yesterday confirmed that 69 Senegalese
children aged between 11 and 16 years were on Sunday deported to Senegal for
failing to have proper documents.
Speaking
to The Point Newspaper in a recent interview, PRO Dibba said the children were
found living in the Streets of Banjul and screened by the security forces who
later confirmed they had no parents or guardians in The Gambia.
The
Security forces on patrol in the streets of Banjul on Friday night arrested 140
people, 69 of whom are children without proper documentation. Since they
happened to be Senegalese they were therefore deported to Senegal on Sunday
while the rest are being questioned for their immigration status.
