Barra Jobe, Alfusainey Minteh and Lamin Sawaneh were recently arraigned before Magistrate Mam Samba of the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 36 sheep.

Prosecutors alleged that on or about the 25th October, 2019, at Dippa Kunda and diverse places, in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, the trio jointly and severally conspired to steal ruminants.

According to the indictment bill, Alfusainey Minteh and Lamin Sawaneh stole the following:  21 sheep valued at D296,000 being the properties of one Ismaila Conteh, 15 sheep valued at D182,000 being the properties of one Yankuba Touray, Fatou Touray, Sulayman Jobe and Modou Jallow, both thefts totaling D482,000.

It was also alleged that Barra Jobe on or about the 25th October, 2019, at Bakoteh and diverse places in the Kanifing Municipality of the Republic of The Gambia, received 36 sheep from Alfusainey Minteh and Lamin Sawaneh, knowing or having reasons to believe that the said sheep were stolen or unlawfully obtained.

After the charge sheet was read to them, they all agreed to have conspired to steal the sheep.

Alfusainey Minteh and Lamin Sawaneh told the court that they stole only 21 sheep but did not steal the remaining 15 sheep.

Barra Jobe agreed that he received 21 sheep from Alfusainey Minteh and Lamin Sawaneh, but also denied receiving the remaining 15 sheep.

The case was subsequently adjourned to the 6th November 2019, for ASP Jahateh, the prosecuting officer, to read out the facts on the charge of conspiracy.

Meanwhile, the accused persons were then remanded at the remand wing of the State Central Prison.
