Gunjur Upper Basic, in collaboration with Blue House of Cabral, has recently awarded certificates to 34 deserving athletes, among the two outstanding students for their remarkable performances.
Sana Darboe, alias King Bairo, and Mariama Nyang received the best male and female prizes respectively.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the housemaster, Malang Sanyang and Yahya Drammeh, profusely expressed their delight over the performance put up by the young athletes. Moreover the duo urged the young stars to keep up the momentum, as athletics is another rewarding career in sport.
For his part, the vice principal of the school, Mr. Michael Gibba a veteran sportsman, advised the athletes to keep on training to maintain their record in last year's Inter School Athletics Sports competition. He further informed the athletes of the importance of having such skills, which are a way of earning a living.
Speaking to Pointsports, the two blissful awardees, Sana Darboe and Mariama Nyang, who reveled in joy, revealed that it is their ambition to become both national and international athletes like Mariam Jones and Husaid Bolt. The duo expressed their wish to represent their beloved country in the international arena. They thanked their housemasters, the school principals and staff of the school.
