3 remanded for robbery, conspiracy, minor granted bail

The Banjul Magistrates’ Court yesterday remanded in custody three persons for the offence of robbery, conspiracy and assault.

Kalipha Marong, Lamin Fofana and Buba Fofana vehemently denied the charges preferred against them, while the first accused person was granted bail of D10, 000 as he was said to be under-age.

Superintendent Sainey Joof, the prosecuting officer, told the court that the prosecution was objecting to bail for the accused persons, except the first accused, who by law is under-age.

Principal Magistrate Emmanuel Nkea granted the prosecution’s application.

The charge sheet on count one stated that on 25th November 2010 at Farafenni in the North Bank Region and diverse places in the Gambia, the accused persons jointly conspired among themselves with intent to commit felony to wit robbery.

Count two read that on the same date at Farafenni, all the accused persons jointly assaulted one Pa Camara by hitting him with blows on his face thereby causing him injury on his mouth.

Count three stated that on the same date at Farafenni, the accused persons jointly robbed Pa Camara, Buba Conteh, and Lamin Manneh of their bag containing D6,052, being the properties of Pa Camara and Buba Conteh.

The case was adjourned till 5th January 2011 for hearing.
