2011 resolutions

Hello readers. Today, doesn’t feel like an essay day, since 2011 is fast approaching I thought it wise to bring in something like Kindness to help us see different ways we can use it to make this world a better place for you and for me and the entire human race.

Among your resolutions this year should be kindness; it should top the list. Start a ripple of kindness and see how good it grows in 2011.Your single good deed, big or small can cause a ripple effect of kindness that continues to grow as others join in when they see you.

You can start being kind by reading to a child, helping the child to write and to solve sums. The child would always live to remember you and inspire to be like you one day. I can remember a child at the “Yes we can read” program at the American Corner, who said that we the volunteers were angels, that we never did any wrong on earth only because we read to them. Isn’t that sweet?

Show some kindness to the poor by giving them food and money. By doing this you are feeding not only him or her but their family as well, because no poor man will eat and leave his family. Think about other empty stomachs you would be feeding when you do this, just this one wonderful kind gesture.

Share what you have with people. It can be your umbrella with others on a rainy day. You would definitely notice others without umbrellas and soaked to their knees in the rain. All you can do is share your umbrella.

You can invite others for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You can stop children from saying negative comments. You can stand up for a woman who is a victim of a sexist remark.

You can surprise your friends by paying their taxi or bus fares or taking them out and have the bill on you. One way you can show kindness is to lend your friends or let them have one of the best-selling books in town or a book that is a “must read” in school. The books could be of great inspiration to your friends and might go a long way in helping them pass their exams, stand up for themselves or even overcome many obstacles in life.

You can show kindness by being an environmentalist. You can do this by growing trees around you, stop littering and saving energy. You can also do this by encouraging others do the same. Do not be scared to tell others to do the same if they are not environmentally friendly.

If you cannot do all that, be a better friend to someone in 2011 than you were this year by smiling, lending an ear and always being there for the people who care. One wonderful thing about kindness is that it is contagious. Beneficiaries of kindness usually see a reason of repaying kindness to you or if they cannot would show kindness to other people somewhere.

But remember, before you can show all the kindness in the world, you have to love yourself first by treating yourself better next year. Do not allow others to dictate your life for you, live it the way you feel and know is right and treat yourself with more kindness. Endeavor to be a better person so that you can have all the energy to show kindness to the world.

Merry Christmas and a Happy and blessed 2011.
