16 youths arraigned for alleged common nuisance

Sixteen youths were on 12 September 2013, arraigned before Magistrate Bojang at the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and charged with common nuisance.

They are Baba Jaiteh, Babucarr Ceesay, Basiru Bah, Saidou Jah, Omar Ann, Alpha Nyockeh, Amadou Tijan Jallow, Alpha Omar Jallow, Balla Sarr, Modou Lamin Fatty, Lamin Saine, Yankuba Keita, Musa Jobe, Ebrima Ndow, Braham Mbowe, and Bubacarr Jobe. They all denied the allegation.

According to the particulars of offence, the accused persons on 11 September 2013, at the Serekunda Market and its diverse places, in the Kanifing Municipality, they gathered themselves within the premises of the market, obstructing or causing inconvenience to the public in exercising of their common right without authority, thereby committed an offence.

The prosecuting officer, Inspector Kanteh, after the charge sheet was read to the accused persons, rose and said he was opposing to bail on the grounds that the accused persons, when granted bail, would go back to the same place and cause nuisance to the public.

As a result, the magistrate remanded the accused persons in prison until 18 September 2013, when the prosecutor would bring his witnesses to testify.
