HOW GOD USED GIDEON.(continuation of 'The Man God Chooses')

Jun 17, 2026, 10:18 AM

The thought came to Gideon to refresh his guest. He cooked a meal which he offered to the angel who with the tip of his staff consumed the meal as one would a sacrifice.

Gideon was startled - to see an angel and not die!  The angel assured him: "Peace! Do not be afraid. You are not going to die." (Jdg 6:.21) and then disappeared. That did not make things easy for Gideon. By this act, the Lord had driven a point home.

(Act 2. Scene 1) Next, the Lord ordered Gideon to pull down his father's shrine to Baal. Gideon summoned courage and with the help of a few friends went into action - but at night. In the morning, there was total commotion in the neighbourhood. Fingers pointed at Gideon as the culprit and that meant sure death, but his father Joash stood up for him againt this hostile crowd.

"Are you going to plead Baal's cause? Are you trying to save him? Whoever fights for him shall be put to death by morning! If Baal really is a god, he can defend himself when someone breaks down his altar." (v.31) Sound familiar!

Gideon had passed his first test of bravery. Henceforth God would be able to use him for His purpose.

Looking back, what test have you failed for lack of courage? Remember God works through Men to accomplish His purposes on earth.

God needs every one of us! Let's just come as we are! To God be the GLORY! Amen!
