Mar 5, 2024, 1:03 PM

The National Youth Council’s training on the youth, security, peace and national action plan documents recently ended at the NaNA conference hall.

The training brought together staff of the National Youth Council (NYC), different youth leaders, and civil society organizations to discuss the significance and the framework of the documents on Youth, Security, Peace and National Action Plan  (YPS and NAP).

Inclusively, during the discussion sessions, the participants were given the maximum opportunity to discuss and shared their concerns towards the development of the Youth, Peace and Security and the National Action Plan (YPS and NAP) documents.

In addition, the capacity building training allows the young people and the civil society organisations to contribute immensely by sharing their true reflections towards the development and the effective implementation of the two documents (YPS and NAP).

Significantly the development of the YPS and the NAP is geared towards addressing the challenging issues faced by the young people in The Gambia.

Meanwhile, youth activist Omar Bah has attended peace security and justice regional consultative meeting (ECOSOCC)  in Abuja, Nigeria.

The two-day meeting brought together 50 key active networks working on socioeconomic and private sector fields, governance, peace, security, youth women and development spectra from across West Africa.

In 2021, ECOWAS in partnership with the United Nations jointly implemented a project titled “ECOWAS (Post) vision 2020: strengthening regional capacities for conflict prevention.

As part of the project, workshops were conducted respectively in Accra, Ghana, (May 26 to 27 2021) involving CSO’s and in Abuja, Nigeria, (July 12 to13 2021). Participants in both workshops emphasised the need for and called on ECOWAS authorities “to expedite the operationalisation of Economic, Social and Cultural Council in West Africa (ECOSOCC – WA) established by the authority in Article 14 of the ECOWAS 1993 Revised Treaty.

The overall objective of the regional consultative meeting is to deliberate on the relevance, modalities and processes of establishing and operationalising the much-needed platform for CSOs and private sector actors to play a more active role in contributing to realization of the ECOWAS Vision 2050 particularly as related to cross-boarder trade, common market, customs unions, democratic consolidation, peace and security.
