Women Scorpions camp at Football Hotel ahead of Qualifiers

The Gambia women national team; the women Scorpions yesterday, Wednesday camped at the Football Hotel at Old Yundum ahead of their 2021 Africa Women’s Cup of Nation (AWCON) qualifiers away to Sierra Leone.

The women Scorpions are set to leave Banjul on Friday 15 October 2021 ahead of their crunch qualifiers with the Sierra Leonean.

Coach Mariama Bom Sowe has finally put up a "formidable squad of 23 players" for the first-leg clash of the Africa Women's Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The game is scheduled for 20 October in Makenni City, Sierra Leone, has now been rescheduled to Monday 18October 2021 at ATS Stadium in Monrovia, Liberia.

The change of venue is been necessitated by the ban imposed on Sierra Leone for not meeting the CAF stadium requirements in Makeni and Monrovia was chosen as their home venue.

 

Speaking to reporters, Coach Mariama Sowe was full of praises to the GFF for the opportunity accorded to the team to be able to train for a substantive period of time on order to hone the skills of the girls.

 

"I want to thank the Federation for giving us the chance and the opportunity to train for almost nine weeks.

 

I think it's a big plus for us because this is the first of its kind", she noted.

She emphasized on the team's readiness to face off their opponents with seriousness in order to favor for the maximum point.

"We never underrate any of our opponents but we are going all out to play them so that we can secure the 3 points," she assured the fans.

Commenting on the change of date and place for the first and away leg which was previously scheduled to take place in Freetown, coach Boom Sowe noted that it has not affected the team in any way as "we are continuing on our training and we are ready for whatever comes on our way".
