As the 2026 World Cup qualifiers edges closer, the question of when will Gambia announce a new national team coach remains unanswered.

The Scorpions are currently without a gaffer since the resignation of Tom Saintfiet following The Gambia’s exit from the 2023 Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MoYS) and The Gambia Football Federation (GFF) senior national team must redouble their efforts to announce a new coach for the Scorpions before their 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Scorpions are set to rub shoulders with Seychelles and Gabon in the global biggest football showpiece qualifiers next month.

The Gambia senior national team occupy second-place from bottom in Group F of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers without a point after two group matches.

The Scorpions were beaten in their two opening 2026 World Cup qualifier matches.

The Gambia senior national team slipped to Burundi 3-2 and Ivory Coast 2-0 in their two opening qualifier matches.

Five coaches are currently contending for the vacant Gambia senior national team coach position.

The Gambia U-23 team coach Abdou Jammeh is among the coaches vying for the vacant Scorpions gaffer position.
