What is next for The Gambia senior national team after their exit from the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations and the sudden resignation of Coach Tom Saintfiet?

The Scorpions are currently without a coach following the resignation of Coach Tom Saintfiet after The Gambia’s shock elimination from the continent’s bi-annual biggest football showpiece.

The Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) must re-double their efforts to sign a new coach for The Gambia senior team before their 2026 World Cup qualifier matches against Seychelles and Gabon in June 2024 following the sudden resignation of Coach Tom Saintfiet.

MoYS and the GFF should try by all means to sign a good and experienced coach for The Gambia senior national team.

The Sports ministry and GFF should also motivate The Gambia senior national team coach and players in order to qualify the country to international football competitions.

Meanwhile, The Gambia finished bottom-place in Group C of the 2023 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations without a point after three group outings.

The Scorpions slipped to Senegal 3-0 in their opening group match played on Monday 15 January 2024 before losing to Guinea Conakry 1-0 in their second group encounter played on Friday 19 January 2014, and also lost to Cameroon 3-2 in their third and final group match played on Tuesday 23 January 2024.
