Speaking to The Point Newspaper exclusively at Alliance Fransco while watching the Germany- Scotland opening, he said: "It is always dangerous to predict, but off-course, we are ambitious of winning the cup. We want to move forward in the competition."
He described the reception hosted by his embassy as “a wonderful opportunity to get German nationals and their Gambian friends together to celebrate the opening of the Euro competition."
"We are glad to be together here because sport stands for peace, unity and fond."
Meanwhile, the diplomat advised German nationals and none alike in The Gambia to watch the competition, while expressing impression with the good cooperation between the two countries.
For his part, Raphael Brigandi, political officer- Charge d' affaires for EU delegation in The Gambia who is also a German national, expressed happiness over his native county’s victory over Scotland during the opening game.
He said: "This is expected because we all know traditionally that Germany has a strong football team."
The EU diplomat advised EU nationals in The Gambia to embrace the love in football and support their respective football teams.
“They should know that this is just football,” he said.
