Head coach of The Gambia U-20 team, Abdoulie Bojang, has stated that two give away goals caused his side’s defeat to Ghana U-20 team in the All African Games, Accra 2023.

The Young Scorpions lost to the Black Satellites 3-1 in their secondGroup A game played at the Ohene Djan Sports Stadium on Tuesday.

Ghana opened the scoring through Musibau Aziz in the 13th minute of the match after capitalising on The Gambia U-20 team goalkeeper Youssaka Sanyang’s mistake, before Abdul Issah extended their lead in the 49th minute from a clinical finish.

The Gambia U-20 team fought back for an equalizer and pulled one goal through substitute Edrissa Ceesay in the 83th minute of the match to bolster the Young Scorpions hopes of levelling the scores.

Jerry Afriyie scored the third goal for Ghana U-20 team in the 90th minute of the match after capitalising on The Gambia U-20 team’s defensive mistake to earn the Black Satellites the vital three points.

“The result didn’t go the way we wanted because we gave give away goals which could’ve been avoided.”

‘‘The first and the third goals could’ve been avoided as they are all give away goals,” Coach Abdoulie Bojang said.

Coach Bojang stated that they still have a game to play which they aim to work harder to qualify, adding that it is a game and they have learned from it.

“We will go back to the drawing board to rectify our mistakes and improve on the game and avoid the mistakes we did which caused us the game,’’Coach Bojang pointed out.

According to coach Bojang, tactically his players were not organised compared to the first match against Benin and also lost the ball to their opponents so easily.
