TMT coach lauds president’s ‘wonderful support’ in team’s success

Alieu Bobb, head coach of TMT FC has hailed the massive support shown by the club president Omar Saidykhan towards their success.

Coach Bobb was speaking to The Point Sports in an interview on Wednesday after defeating Hart FC 4-1 during their final league game as they were crowned winners of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF) Second Division League title.

Hart FC opened the scoring through Saikouba Jarju in the 3rd minute, before TMT responded with three goals before the break with Modou Lamin Cham’s own-goal in the 32nd minute, Malang Jammeh finished in the 44th minute and Sanna Jassey's strike in the 45+1 minute.

Captain Yahya Ndong wrapped up the goals festival with the fourth in the 90+3 minute.

Despite having three points deducted from them, the win over Hart FC crowned TMT winners of the league after BST Galaxy played a goalless draw against Kanifing East on the same day.

“It was a very difficult moment for us after working very hard and later having our points deducted. We never gave up as a team but also want to thank our management particularly our president for encouraging us and asking us to focus on the pitch,” said Coach Alieu.

According to him, the secret behind the team’s success is their president’s motivation as well as hard training and good spirit within the team.

Asked about his feelings after he receiving  news about his team’s points deduction, he said it was very sad.

“The news changed our mood at the time but we believed in God and had confidence in winning the league.”  

He went on to appreciate the solidarity and encouragement from Gambians during and after their points deduction, adding that he dedicate the the title to his mother.

Yahya Ndong, TMT FC captain, said it was not an easy season for them but thanked God that they eventually won the title.

“After the news of our points deduction, we were really surprised and sad. But we stayed focus and committed because we have very good lawyers who were concentrating on that.”

After their appeal which later resulted in having their points deducted from 10 to 3, Captain Ndong noted that they immediately believed that they had the chance of winning the league during their final game.   

As winners of the league TMT FC were awarded gold medals, a giant trophy and a cheque of D500, 000, while BST Galaxy were presented a cheque for D250, 000 for finishing second position.
