The Sports Journalists' Association of The Gambia (SJAG) on Saturday held its 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM) at Seaview Gardens Hotel in Kololi.

The meeting brought together members who reviewed and adopted the Executive Committee's annual activity and financial reports, and discussed the budget and action plan for next year.

SJAG President Omar Jarju said the AGM was a constitutional requirement.

"We must never forget our story. A small visionary band of fewer than 10 dedicated sports reporters who grew to over 20 pioneers sat down with a typewriter, a notebook and an unshakable dream to give Gambian sports a voice," Jarju said.

He paid tribute to founding fathers and veterans, including Lamin Cham and his contemporaries.

"We offer our deepest gratitude to these people. We started as a marginalised group that has blossomed into a vibrant, nationally and internationally recognised umbrella organisation. Today we are over 100 sports journalists. We stand today because we stand on your giant shoulders," he said.

Jarju also remembered late members including Tombong Jadama and Pa Barrow who are no longer with the association.

He noted that over the years, SJAG has transitioned from a reactive guild into a proactive structure, hosting specialised training sessions and virtual modules covering news writing, interview techniques, sports storytelling and financial reporting.
