The event brought together men and women who represented the country in the different sporting disciplines.
In his welcoming address, President of the Sports Journalists' Association of The Gambia, Omar Jarju , underscored the importance of the event to celebrate the living legends of The Gambia, who raised the country's flag higher in sport.
Jarju stated that SJAG is committed to promoting football through fair, accurate and balanced coverage, adding that the vision is bridging the gap between the past and the present.
GNOC president Bai Dodou Jallow commended SJAG for bringing together some of the finest sporting pioneers under one roof.
Jallow stated that the event reflects a deliberate effort to document history, celebrate excellence, and create a platform where young generation can learn directly from who paved the way.
“This is both timely and commendable as it provides an opportunity for us to recognise and preserve the rich sporting heritage of our nation,” Mr Jallow said.
Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie, stated that the Government of The Gambia through the Ministry of Youth and Sports is fully committed to supporting all kinds of sport in the country.
Badjie thanked the veterans for their sacrifice, adding that they have done well during their time as sports men. He also thanked SJAG for organising the event.
