Mainmuna Colley could have levelled the scores for Kombo Central II in the first half but her shot went away thus the first half ended 1-0 in favour of Serrekunda East.
Upon resumption of the match, Kombo Central II organised themselves and piled heavy pressure on Serrekunda East, creating goal scoring opportunities.
Awa Jassey levelled matters for Kombo Central II in the stoppage time from an astounding finish after capitalising on skipper Fatoumatta Sanneh’s error thus the match ended 1-1.
This pushed the match into post-match penalty shootouts, which ended 5-4 infavour of Serrekunda East.
As champions, Serrekunda East were decorated with a giant trophy and gold medals while Kombo Central II received silver medals as runners-up.
Mary Gaye of Serrekunda East won the best player of the tournament award, while Fatoumata Sanneh of Serrekunda East received the best goalkeeper of the tournament award.
Abibatou Sonko of Central II won the best defender of the tournament award.
The kick off was taken by the vice president of Kombo Central II sports committee Musa Kebba Jaju.
Speaking to Point Sports shortly after the final whistle, the head Coach of Serrekunda East, Abdou G. Jallow, expressed delight for winning the national women’s nawettan trophy.
“Our journey to the final was tough but thank God we end the tournament with joy,” Coach Jallow said.
Gaffer Jallow thanked Serrekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) for rendering support to the team during the course of the tournament.
Head of Kombo Central II, Dawda Colley, expressed his disappointment after surrendering the trophy to Serrekunda East.
It could be recalled that Kombo Central II won the national women’s nawettan trophy last season.
