Papa Yusupha Njie, the CEO of the Unique Group, has stated Qatar World Cup has been one of the best World Cup tournaments for African teams.

Mr. Njie said this during an interview with Malick Jones, on weekend Panorama of the Qatar World Cup tournament in Doha.

“In all my time of watching and following African football, this has been our best World Cup. We’ve had the greatest number of histories by an African team. Every African team won a game in this World with Cup- Tunisia beating France, Ghana beat South Korea, Cameroon beat Brazil and Senegal beat Qatar and Ecuador respectively, while Morocco went as far as the semi-final stage,” he said.

He added that Africa has made history in this year’s World Cup after almost all the five representatives defeated some of the big teams in the tournament.

According to him, he believed that African could’ve got more teams in the second round of the tournament, adding that African teams should’ve taken a little bit of their luck and composure to get more teams in the second round.

“I believed that all the African teams could’ve gone into the second round. We have Senegal and Morocco after which the Teranga Lions were knocked out by England but we’ve seen what the Moroccans did.”

Mr. Njie also expressed love and happiness for all the African teams with local coaches, adding that it’s been a beautiful World Cup for African teams. He believes it could only get better despite witnessing and seeing some mistakes by African teams which led to their eliminations.

“I believe we have now earned the right to get as many teams from Africa, with the next World Cup tournament set to feature 48 teams. I also believe that Africa is now ready to also register some merits in World Cup competitions like Europe and American countries.”

He buttressed that the would-be new format of the tournament, might help to see other African big teams like Cote D'Ivoire, Nigeria, Algeria, Egypt and The Gambia qualifying to the next World Cup.

With this current momentum, he noted, could see an African team winning the World Cup, while praying for The Gambia to be among the teams to qualify for the next (48 countries) World Cup tournament.
