PFIFA removes Indonesia as host of U-20 World Cup

The world football governing body, FIFA has removed Indonesia as host of the U-20 FIFA World Cup 2023.

There has been growing tensions and protest against the Israel's participation in Indonesia which brought concerns necessitated the decision.

FIFA has also announced that a new host nation will be announced subsequently but noted that the stipulated date of commencement (20th May 2023) remains unchanged as of now.

Apparently, a meeting was held between FIFA President Gianni Infantino and The President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) Eric Thohir on Tuesday and FIFA made the announcement on Wednesday with Indonesia said to face sanctions which will be revealed at a later date.

Gambia's U-20 Head Coach Abdoulie Bojang and Team Administrator Modou Jagne were supposed to attend the draw through FIFA's invitation which was also cancelled until further notice.

The Gambia national U-20 team have already resumed preparations and are set to commence local training sessions in early April ahead of the tournament.

Meanwhile, engagements and consultations are continuing between FIFA and its stakeholders for a new host nation to be announced with other relevant logistics.
