The project according to the mining company, is geared towards fulfilling the company’s agreed memorandum of understanding with the community as well fulfilling its social corporate responsibility.
Jerreh Jatta, the village alkalo, at the ceremony urged the youths to show commitment and resilient toward the development of the community, adding that the development of the village mainly depends on dedication of young people.
“I am urging the youths to take up responsibilities in making sure that the development of this community is seriously taken care of. And by doing that, participation in community service must be seen as responsibility of all natives,’’ he stated.
He further thanked the company for investing on youth development projects, noting that the project would not only serve as a leisure moments for the youth, but also producing talents.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the company for investing hugely towards the progress of young people in the community.”
Botto Bojang, the councilor for Sanyang Ward, in his statement, assured the community of his office’s tireless effort in providing enabling environment for the implementation of projects that would create lasting impact on the lives of the young people within the ward.
“I want to assure you of my office commitment and readiness to provide an enabling environment where investors will plough back to communities and more especially in the youths in order to create a lasting impact on their lives,’’ he assured.
Amadou Manneh, site manager for GACH Mining Company, said the project is a fulfillment of the already signed MoU between the community and the company.
“We are here today to fulfill our promise given to the community and that is to provide a perimeter for the community’s football field. He hinted that plans are in the pipeline to construct a health facility for the community in feature.
Mustapha Kandeh, Batokunku Village Development Committee’s chairman commended the Mining Company for fulfilling its promise to finance the construction of their village football field.
He revealed that the company also electrified the community’s streets with sloar powered lights and it’s also on the verge of constructing a health facility for them.
