The Gambia senior national team manager, Ousman ‘Cho’ Drammeh, has completed a webinar course on Sports Law for non-lawyers offered by the Leadership Academy for Sports Sciences (LASS).

Drammeh, who was awarded the certificate after an intensive one-month program, described it as the beginning of his journey to acquire excellence in Sports Law.

“As a Team Manager, whose purview and responsibilities encompasses the role of Team administration, team coordination and team management, the understanding of the legal and regulatory framework and the various dispute resolution mechanisms cannot be underestimated as we are always entangled in matters of legal nature as custodians of the various competition regulations and the FIFA statutes,” Drammeh said.

“The course exposed me to the legal nature of contracts at all levels involving (players, agents, clubs, Associations/Federations, and International Associations/Federations etc.) and their legal implications and the role of the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS), World Anti-Doping Agency, (WADA) and the International Olympic Committee (IOM) amongst others.”

He thanked the President of the Gambia Football Federation (GFF), Lamin Kabba Bajo, who not only persuaded him to enroll for the course, due to its relevance in the execution of his functions and duties as a Team Manager, but also sponsored it.

“I would like to assure the President and everyone at the GFF that this is the beginning of the journey to acquire excellence in this prestigious domain of Sports Law,” Drammeh added.

“I hereby dedicate this certificate and my entire Sports Law career to the President for paving the way for me to embark upon this journey as I intend to continue in my quest for excellence in this domain and specialisation.

I express my heartfelt gratitude to him and I pray to the Almighty Allah to preserve him and grant him all that he desires for himself and his family.”

General Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the GFF, Lamin M. Jassey, said he is absolutely thrilled for what he described as a great achievement for the Team Manager.

“I’ve no doubt that you will triumphantly complete any task if you put your mind to it and work towards it.

I would also like to add my voice to yours to thank the President for his encouragement and financial support.

He has proven to be not only a good leader but also a big brother for all of us. Inshallah, Allah SWT will reward his kind gestures,” Jassey added.

“Let me further assure you that I will be willing and ready to support you in your drive to pursue higher education in the field of sports, especially football.”
