The 2025/26 GFF First Division League season came to a dramatic conclusion on Monday.

Debutants Medina United were crowned champions in a colourful ceremony presided over by Minister of Youth and Sports, Bakary Y. Badjie and the GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Adama Kanteh was the hero for Medina United, scoring a stunning late goal against Gambia Ports Authority to secure the club's first-ever Gambian league title in their maiden top-flight season. For their historic triumph.

Medina United were awarded a giant trophy, gold medals and a grand prize of D1,000,000.

The Race for the top three (3)

Fortune Football Club (2nd Place): In Brikama, Salifu Jarju’s dramatic late penalty secured a tense 1-0 victory for the Petroleum Boys over Steve Biko at the Box Bar Mini Stadium. The win placed Fortune FC just one point behind the champions.

The Petroleum Boys received D500,000 as runner-up.

Gambia Ports Authority  Football Club Official (3rd Place): Despite their final-day loss to the champions, GPA held onto third place.

The Ferry Boys received a cheque amounting to  D250,000 as third-place holders.

Relegation heartbreak and survival battles

While Medina United celebrated, it was a devastating final day for several historic clubs:

Steve Biko (30 points) and Samger (32 points) have been relegated to the Second Division.

Samger looked hopeful early on after Kebba Marena scored in the opening minute against Hawks.

Sulayman Sowe's header rescued a vital 1-1 draw for the Reds, ensuring Hawks' survival.

Playoffs: TMT FC (33 points) defeated Team Rhino Football Club 2-1 at the Gunjur Nyimina Mini Stadium, but results elsewhere mean they must now navigate a four-team playoff against the third, fourth, and fifth-place second-division teams to retain their top-flight status.

Falcons FC Gambia preserved their first-division status with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Hart FC, courtesy of goals from Mustapha Badjie and Adama Jarju.

In a five-goal thriller in Basori, 10-man Real de Banjul Football Club fell to the Brikama-based outfit Greater Tomorrow.

A brace from Bakary Jobe and a strike from Jerreh Camara sealed the comeback win for Greater Tomorrow after Real’s Ebrima K. Jatta was sent off in the 24th minute.

BST Galaxy FC 4–1 Bombada Football Club: Mansour Mbye stole the show at Old Yundum, netting a magnificent hat-trick to inspire the Galaxies to a roaring comeback win.

Gambian Dutch Lions 3–3 Brikama United: Fans at the Dimphy's Memorial Football Complex were treated to a six-goal classic, with both sides settling for a hard-earned point to close out the season.
